They're popping up in a neighborhood near you: "We've Been BOOed!" signs that fly from house to house. First one neighbor, then another ... and then it's your house! What's behind it all?

You've been BOOed! Welcome to the wonderful world of Halloween BOO-ing!

Sometimes called "Ghosting" or "the Phantom", the Halloween BOO is an Autumn take on "Secret Santa" or May baskets.

Usually seen in neighborhoods--but sometimes in the workplace--BOO-ing is a friendly tradition for Halloween fun. Will your neighborhood be next?

To start a Halloween BOO, one neighbor secretly leaves a small gift basket, a BOO poem, BOO instructions and a BOO sign at a neighbor's doorstep.

The lucky BOO-ee is asked to post the sign near the door, alerting others that "We've Been BOO-ed!" That way, new BOO recruits won't leave a duplicate BOO on the doorstep.

In turn, the neighbor is asked to BOO two other households, leading to a chain reaction--and Halloween fun.

Day by day, the BOO signs proliferate. Soon, the entire neighborhood is sporting BOO signs, and everyone is guessing. Who's been booed?

I love this idea. I started this in my school 3 years ago and my colleagues loved it. I then did it at X-Mas and Valentine's day. It's great fun for the kids in all of us:) Thanks so much for the idea

I did mine for the single people, gave a bottle of wine with a spooky tag.... I think it was very ciute and nice for the people without kids.

Our first Boo...

Wow, never knew about this before and I must say it was such a happy surprise to see the treats at our door. How fun. Can't wait to Boo some neighbors. :)

Fun for halloween!

Normally we dont look forward to anything around Halloween There are many nieghbor hood events that envolve Christmas like singing carols and all of those things. Me and my family just got boo-ed and i think its a great idea!

We've had the fun of being

We've had the fun of being Boo-ed but one year we weren't and I learned something valuable... it's very hurtful to be left out. We won't be participating in any Boos in the future. It seems like innocent fun but unless you can make sure that everyone in your neighborhood gets Boo-ed, someone gets left out.

dont be a poo poo.....maybe one of the kids in the hood took it cause they have no parents to celebrate with...your very lucky...remember its better to give then receive...you reep what you soe, dont soe the woe is me...

I hope you get a big boo so you wont be a poo!!!
