Magic Elf Tradition: Will Santa's Magic Elf Visit Your Home This Christmas?

1_magic_elf

What would happen if one of Santa's elves came to your house to visit?

He'd arrive sometime before the holidays began. Sent by Santa to check on good little girls and boys, he'd roam the house at night, popping up in the most unlikely places come morning.

Sometimes, elf mischief would take place--and he'd be caught red-handed! Finally, on Christmas Eve, he'd report to Santa and hitch a ride back to the North Pole ... until next year.

If you can imagine it, you can do it: meet Santa's Magic Elf!

Designed to share the Christmas spirit with children, the Magic Elf tradition an interactive holiday activity for families or school classes. Free printable letters from Santa, Elf passport and Elf report make it easy to create a new holiday tradition!

It's easy to invite Santa's Magic Elf to visit:

Choose a time for the visit

What's the right time for the Elf to arrive? Thanksgiving weekend? Two weeks before Christmas? When the family puts up the Christmas tree?

Choose a date for the Elf's arrival, and prepare for fun!

Whenever he or she arrives, Santa's Magic Elf will need a passport. Print one here: Elf Passport.

Print a Letter of Introduction

Your Elf will need a letter of introduction, explaining why he or she is visiting the family. We make it easy with a selection of free printable letters from Santa, or you can create your own letter of introduction.

Santa will need to explain that the Elf has come to report the behavior of good little boys and girls, and that he or she will be returning to the North Pole on Christmas Eve.

Given Elves' well-known propensity to misbehave, a warning about Elf Mischief might be in order.

Create an Elf Report

Santa's Elf will need a way to make his report. Give the Elf a small notebook, or print our free Elf Report--it's where Santa's Elf will record his observations for the year (and be a cherished keepsake after the holidays).

Introduce the Elf to the family

Will the Elf arrive in a basket on the doorstep? Will he make a magical trip down the chimney? Will he be found on or under the Christmas tree?

However he gets there, know that Santa's Elf always likes to make a splash when he arrives!

Watch Santa's Magic Elf make his report

Each night, the Elf will find a new place to hide; he'll want to make a thorough report to Santa. Since he's here to look for good behavior, he'll have to travel all through the house in the course of his visit.

Elves can go to sleep in some of the most unlikely places! It's often necessary for the children to search the house in the morning to find the sleepy Elf.

Watch out for Elf Mischief!

Late at night, Santa's Magic Elf is able get into all sorts of mischief!

Elves have been known to spill sugarbowls (and leave their tracks in the spill), bounce on the sofa (disarranging the cushions), grab the remote for some late night television, check out the refrigerator, hide in pockets or leave small surprises for their young friends.

You'll find loads and loads of ideas for Elf Mischief on the Magical Holiday Home Magic Elves message boards. Our friends know that Elves are much more inclined to get into trouble when they're away from Santa!

Help the Elf's subjects write a letter to Santa

Naturally, the Elf is hoping that Santa will receive a good report about him, too. The children may wish to write to Santa, and tell him about the Elf's visit. They may even ask to be visited next year, so be sure the Elf has letters for Santa when it's time to return.

Finally, prepare Santa's Magic Elf for the trip back to the North Pole

Be sure Santa's Magic Elf is packed and ready to go on December 24th. He can wait for Santa in a stocking or near Santa's cookies and milk, but he'd better have his journal and any letters for Santa and be ready to leave.

Santa's in a hurry on Christmas Eve, and can't wait around for a laggard Elf!

Elves

Plese show me how to get an elf(step by step)

I want an elf

Santa plz bring me an elf :)

25 years and counting

When I was little I was the lucky person to find our magic elves (I have 2 brothers) and a note from Santa about how good we had been so he was sending his speacial eleves to visit us. That was nearly 25 years ago and I still have the letter and our eleves still come out for decoration at my parents house the week before Christmas. Of course they are much older and less have less mischif to get into. My sons now 11, 11 and 9 love to hear the stories of the elves and love to look for them when they do spend the night with their grandparents while they are visiting. In a time when "family" and traditions are much less meaningful (it seems) this is a great way to keep the magic in kids lives.

Adorable, Just Adorable!

The thoughts and dedication that went into the presentation of this website is well appreciated! We just had to express our thoughts "you are adorable"!! Happy holidays everyone!

Magic Elf

We have been doing this in my family since our middle child (who is now 24) was 3 yrs old. I made the mistake of telling someone at work about this about 12 years ago in front of a customer. The customer's eyes lit up and I knew I missed the boat on cashing in. After that the "Shelf Elf" phenom took off. In any case, our "Elf" was and still is actually a Christmas Fairy that I bought from Avon. Some of you may want to have an Elf just like ones you see in various publications, but my advice is to make him/her unique to your family. Ours is about 3 inches high and she sits on a present (she also has wings) . Our boys are now 29, 24, and 15 and she still visits the day after Thanksgiving and now travels all over the house instead of just the livingroom. It's great fun to see the boys trying to find her. I have also had to look for her on occasion. Enjoy this tradition, it adds to the merriment of the holiday.

Another one you parents might enjoy is something that I had as a chld. On Christmas Eve, Santa would sneak into my bedroom and my brothers bedroom after putting presents under the tree and leave our stocking on the end of our bed. In the morning we would wake up and meet in one anothers bedroom and open our stockings. Santa was a smart cookie because he knew that this would give Mom & Dad about 15 to 20 minutes extra sleeptime. ;)

Getting an elf

I purchased 2 little bears that carry little heart shaped frames.
I will insert each of the granddaughters pictures. Then send them on thier way. Do not think there is a rule says it has to be an elf lol!
Have fun!

I found the cutest elf at

I found the cutest elf at Meijer. It was $3 and looks a lot like the cute 50's decorations.

Elf

I saw several cute elves at Hobby Lobby that are bendable. Wish I would've seen those before ordering one. The one I ordered was off of Amazon.com. He's really cute! He has red and white striped leggings, green shoes, and a green hat and gloves. It's called Pop In Kins. CHeck it out!

We have the Elf on the Shelf

We have the Elf on the Shelf and my 5yr old is already asking when Clark(that's what he named ours) will show up. The Elf comes with a book and it's a very cute story that we love to read. It is a wonderful fun holiday tradition to start!

Elf

My daughter is 7 & we have used the elf since she was 2. Now, we also have a 2 year old son. My mom found the elf (Elf on the Shelf) before it became popular. Now, you can find them at any Barnes & Nobles. My daughter named him "Elfie". Elfie shows up Thanksgiving night & he is here to watch & tell Santa how the children behaved. Although, Elfie doesn't behave. Every night he moves & he's usually up to mischief. He rolls out the toilet paper, knocks ornaments off of the tree, empties out the sock drawer, etc. He even follows my kids to my moms. They have the greatest fun trying to "find" Elfie in the morning & see what Elfie has been up to. When writing to Santa, my daughter likes to tell Santa what Elfie has done. We have great fun with Elfie.

are they real i mean i know

are they real i mean i know there real but do they actuly move or does the parents sneek around and do this stuff

Are they real I mean I know

Visitor, sad to say, that's a

Visitor, sad to say, that's a stock photo. I love it--and I love the elf, too.

But I've never seen any commercial product like it. If I do, I'll add links so people can find one like it!

my children love this!

i have used the "magic elf" tradition since my eldest (Angel) was 3yrs and was starting to understand the idea of "christmas" she is now 7yrs and we still use it my other 4 -Kayden (6yrs)Kenzie & skyler (4yrs) and Brandi (2yrs) all love "sprinkle the elf" every year sprinkle appears on the first saturday morning in december, leaving a "snowy footprint trail" (fake snow) from the door step to the christmad tree! where he is waiting under the tree to be found by the kids. every year he has a little "elf passport" (i bought a build-a-bear passport and covered the front with a picture of the northpole and teared out all the pages apart from the "stamp" pages and "photo" page its soo cute and has lasted 5yrs and is still going strong!) wich we "stamp" by adding a drawing of a snowflake and each of the kids names and that years date every year he comes! he also has a report book ( an A5 notebook with "topsecret" "stamped" on the front) with a section for each child it also has a "siiver snowflake" section for each child (more details to come)everday day until christmas eve he moves around the house "observing" the childrens behaviour.
some night sprinkle gets up to micheive! hiding school bags, teddys, tv remotes and even the occasional present from under the chrismas tree! and each morning the children go searching for the lost! each morning he magically moves to a differant location - making sure he vitits each room in the house at least one before christmas eve! as sprinkle observes there behavior he writes down notes each day for santa claus to look at and if he thinks one of the children has done REALLY well, helped out or something else that was extra speical he can give then a silver snowflake! once a child has 5 silver snowflakes they get a speical treat the next morning from sprinkle (this could be cookies, a small doll, a peice of candy anything you like just dont go overboard remember christmas is in a couple weeks and they will be getting plenty of gifts then!) on christmas eve we get sprinkle all packed with his passport and report book to show santa as part of our christmas eve tradtition we have the older children (around 5+) write letters to santa to tell him all about the mischeive sprinkle has been getting up too! and we have the younger children draw pictures of them and sprinkle for sprinkle to take away with him to give to santa when santa comes to collect him! the children all ADORE sprinkle and it certainly makes then behave around christmas time!!!

Sad good byes

Sounds like you have alot of fun with your elves!! This was our first year with "Bernard" and "Sparkles" and we are having a blast! I am sad to see christmas is only 9 days away and I was wondering how you do their exit? Ive been looking for a cute Thank you note that the elves can leave...Or something special that they could do. If you could send me a few ideas on what you do. Thank you in advance!!

Adorable!

This is a really cute idea for my step-son and daughters (aged 6, 3 and 1, respectively.) Once my printer is up and running, I plan on doing this for them. I wonder how hard it would be to make my own elf...? Any ideas or patterns out there to use? I look forward to seeing some Elf mischief :)
