Welcome to my Halloween home!

Now that I'm over yesterday's little "pet", it's time to invite you into my house for Halloween! Here's what you'll see if you come Trick-or-Treating on Saturday night:

Now to the heart of our home: our family room. It's one of my favorite places, and never more so than in the autumn. Year round, it's the place where we display an art collection, watch television, and read books.

In summer, the family room can get a little bit lonely; we spend long, warm summer evenings on the deck just outside. The fireplace is dark, and my favorite fireside chair rarely has a visitor:

But once cold weather moves in, so do we! Dog Lindsey has a warm and cozy bed just behind my chair, while her pup friend Dicksie claims the warm spot on the hearthrug, in front of the fire.

As for me, I wheel a little laptop table out of the closet where it's spent the summer months, and set up my fireside workstation:

The fireplace is even more cozy once the autumn decorations come inside:

Across the room, an antique chest sits beneath more art. The marble top holds special art objects--and the photo book from my grandmother's 100th birthday celebration. To decorate, I don't guild this lily, just add a little pumpkin for a Fall feeling:

From my chair, I have a clear view into our dining nook. It's where we start the day each morning:

Little Dicksie likes all the fall touches--and so do I!

Last but not least, who will be answering the door this year? Why, it's Professor McGonagall, and her little dragon, Dicksie!

Happy Halloween!

Christmas Shopping and your website

Hi, Cynthia: I'm the founder of http://www.Habitudes.info, an online family organizing and record keeping website. I'm getting ready to publish my November newsletter, and while looking for helpful resources for my readers, came upon Organized Christmas. It's an absolutely wonderful site and I plan to feature it. (If you'd like to see the newsletter, sign up for it on the Habitudes home page.)

While reading through your site, I discovered we have much in common. I'm also an "empty nester." One of my sons is in the Army Reserves and currently on his second tour of duty in Bagdad. I would love to get in touch in a less public space than this blog, but haven't been able to find an email address on the site. If you'd like to "connect," please email me at [NOTE: address edited to protect against spammers].

Hope to hear from you!

P.S. I'm in San Francisco, but only because my father moved here from Mt. Vernon, Washington, as a young man. I still have relatives in Washington state.

Hi, Jackie!

We loved our San Francisco years, while husband Steve did an internship and residency at California Pacific Hospital.

As for e-mail, we have a contact form linked at the bottom of every page; it's the way to get in touch with any questions--but the best way to make personal contact with me is through Twitter. Look to the right; you'll see the link to my Twitter feed.

Oh ... and I'm cynthiaewer on Facebook. Let's meet up!
